What to Expect

On your first day:

The first day can be super exciting, nerve-wreaking, overwhelming or all of the above.  We recognize that joining swim lessons is a big step in any person’s life.  We want to ensure you feel comfortable and prepared.  Listed below are some tips for you!

Know Your Schedule

Please make sure you know your time slots selected.  We would hate for you to miss your lesson or come at the wrong time!

Arrive Early

The earlier you are the better.  The first day we would like to make sure we get you or your child in the pool without cutting into your lesson time.  If you have never been at our location before, you also may need extra time to find it or find us.

Come Prepared

Please be ready to get into the pool.  It is easier for us when you or your child is already dressed and ready.  Note: if your child is not potty trained, you must have a swim diaper.  Having a double layer of protection is encouraged.  Reusable swim diapers work very well.  We recommend a disposable one, with a reusable diaper over it!

Talk to Your Instructor

Our instructors would like to know all about you and your child.  Communication is key!  It is important to let us know you or your child's learning style, personality, and background.  Express any concerns or questions you may have.  Discuss whether or not you would like us to take it slow, or push for faster progression.  This is so important so we can make sure we are on the same page throughout your lessons!

During the Lesson

If you are a parent, please recognize that crying is normal.  This is a different setting and situation your child is in, we will do our best to comfort them while also teaching them.  If your child is screaming for you it may be best to hide.  This does go away in time, the only way for it to is with consistency and time for our instructor to bond with your child.  Please do not get in the pool during lessons unless otherwise approved, the pool is for our swimmers only.

Eating Before Lessons

Please don’t feed your child within an hour before the lesson. Throwing up is not uncommon when children first start to swim, an empty stomach will help. Try and feed them 3-4 hours prior to their lesson and if they must have anything please avoid heavy foods and keep it at a minimal amount.

Examples of foods that are okay before swim lessons: apple sauce, juices, bananas, and finely processed oatmeal.  Please avoid dairy, carbs, and hard-to-digest foods.
